This Saul of Tarsus was later converted to Christianity and became known by his Roman name, the Apostle Paul. “To approve” here means “to be pleased with.” Some people are reluctant persecutors, but Saul wasn’t one of these he took pleasure in attacking Christians. He was consenting, in agreement, with them about Stephen’s execution. He was at the execution of Stephen and watched over the clothes of those who were stoning him. Here we learn of a young man named Saul, a pharisee of pharisees. They were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except for the apostles. A great persecution arose against the assembly which was in Jerusalem in that day.
